Chad Spruill

Associate Partner & Gene Therapy Biosafety Officer

Chad is a dedicated Biosafety professional with over 12 years of experience in research and academia. His passion for the field started as a child, where he enjoyed collecting and studying bugs he found in the backyard. As an adult this translated to keeping people safe from potentially harmful laboratory “bugs”. He has a diverse background and holds a BS and MS in Biology, from East Carolina University. His career has taken him from the College of Engineering and Technology, where he oversaw day-to-day operations, to becoming the Biological Safety Officer for the Brody School of Medicine and ECU. Most recently, he was the Interim Director for the Department of Prospective Health, where he was primarily responsible for the Biosafety and Infection Control programs. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and continues looking for bugs in the backyard, with his children.

Mission Statement

Our mission and expertise at Clinical Biosafety Services is to provide accelerated, compliant review of gene transfer/gene therapy clinical trials to a convened review of a site-specific Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). We do this by understanding the challenges in the two client relationship of serving an institution and a sponsor.

Our focus is to accelerate the trial, and remove regulatory burden and uncertainty by having our highly trained experts provide friendly, knowledgeable support during the review process. We understand these therapeutics will change medicine, and our service is to bring the trial to enrollment fruition, quickly and compliantly.
